Ravi Shankar was already considered the dean of Indian music, playing to full houses at Carnegie Hall and in other major cities worldwide, when the Beatles' George Harrison discovered the music of the sitar master in the mid-1960s. Harrison's use of the 18-stringed instrument in the Beatles' song "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" and on the seminal "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album opened up a entirely new audience for Shankar, who will perform at Overture Hall on Tuesday.
