Ben Seketa, an eighth-grader at West Genesee Middle School, won a national award for his artwork.

Seketa was surprised when art teacher Anna Mayerhofer announced that his glass vase had won the National Scholastic Gold Key during an art program at the school.

"I like it (the artwork), but I didn't think it was amazing - I guess other people do," Seketa said. "I didn't think it was going to go as far as it did...
