Apr. 9--In Omaha, railroading usually means Union Pacific.

But now the headquarters city of Union Pacific Corp. is home to the biggest shareholder of U.P.'s top competitor, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. disclosed over the weekend that it has accumulated $3.17 billion worth of stock in BNSF, the Texas-based railway that battles Union Pacific to haul coal and other bulk cargo across the western United States.

News of his purchase boosted Burlington Northern's share price about 8 percent by midday ...
