On the 20th of September I felt I had made little progress and the weather was changing. The first signs of autumn were appearing and I realised I could not spend all winter in the mountains. After a few scares and having heard about the lack of Allied progress I decided to be off, up the valley, out of the foothills and south eastwards into the mountains, heading for the Lines.
