My Grandpa was indeed a smart man. Once, while an early teen, as we were talking and loading the truck for a weeklong deer hunt, he told me something that I'll never forget. He made himself very clear. "Always, and I mean always choose your hunting partners with care. Maybe not as much care as you would choosing a spouse, mind you, but darn near it!" It would be a number of years after that until I found out for myself that he knew exactly what he was talking about. Nothing can kill a hunt or a hunter's spirit worse than a bad hunting partner.
