The sun went down and all human voices, all twitterings of birds, crumbled and drifted away on the wings of the wind. Trees, scattered in clumps to the horizon, slowly became imbued with mystery and sidled into darkness. I tried to step out of the shadows that engulfed my mind, to where there seemed some light. Just then, there arose from behind me the sound of those familiar steps, and the dark in my mind returned.
