Gorgon: expand or die?

The Greater Gorgon LNG project on Barrow Island in northwest Australia is doing a bit of shape-shifting, with shareholders saying the plant's initial production could jump by half. Reviews are currently underway to see if Gorgon could sustain two 7.5 million ton per year trains, instead of the 5 million ton/yr trains originally discussed. If this production increase materializes, it would put Gorgon in the same league as giant trains under construction in Qatar and Nigeria (p1).
