A new technology called Compact Disc-Recordable (CD-R) allows users to create their own discs that can be read by any standard CD-ROM drive. CD-R has many potential uses for organizations including libraries which can use the technology to provide electronic access to their collections and services. A number of CD-R drives are currently available and are priced from around $4000 to $8000 and up. Libraries can use CD-R technology to create in-house collections of faculty publications, bibliographies, directories and institutional documents.
