We know from his writings how large a role music played in the life and mind of Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900), and we know of his infatuation with Richard Wagner's music, and with Wagner personally, from the beginning of his career. He was an active and dedicated composer from his teens to his thirties; yet his music has remained almost completely unknown for over a century.
