Mar. 15--The rest of the universe can call it whatever it wants; in New Mexico, Pluto stays a planet. Seeking to preserve the legacy of Clyde Tombaugh, a native New Mexican who discovered the ninth planet, New Mexico's House of Representatives passed, 70-0, a resolution declaring the diminutive celestial body will remain a planet. It also declares March 13 "Pluto Planet Day." The resolution is a response to the International Astronomers Union's controversial decision last summer to demote Pluto to the status of "dwarf planet."
