A WHITE elephant – that’s what some people were saying Durban’s International Convention Centre (ICC) would be when it was first mooted in the early nineties.

Today, about a decade since it was officially opened by former president Nelson Mandela, it has become a giant iconic money-spinner for the KwaZulu-Natal economy. By the end of this year it would will have generated at least R6 billion for the region, and it has put Durban on the global conferencing map.
