General Augusto Pinochet ruled Chile as dictator From 1973 till 1990. He died December 10, 2006, at age 91. A very controversial figure, Pinochet was on the one hand accused of being responsible For political terrorism (3,000 killed) and torture (30,000 victims) by his opponents. On the other hand, his defenders see him as the saviour of his country From a communist bloodbath and totalitarianism.
