Dear Dr. SerVaas,
For decades you have been advising young women that taking folic acid could help protect their babies from brain and spinal cord birth defects. Then, a few years ago, they started fortifying grains with extra folic acid. Can you tell me if babies are still being born with spinal bifida birth defects? Has the incidence dropped?
