Two wars and a change in environmental conditions have had long-lasting effects on the shrimp fisheries in Kuwaiti waters. Fishery activities were disrupted by the Iran-Iraq war, and the Iraqi invasion in 1990 resulted in most fishing boats and research vessels and data being taken to Iraq.
