The metrics of Ausias March in a European context. (15th-century Catalan poetry)

The ten syllable line used by Ausias March was based on earlier poetry from Catalonia rather than on foreign models. March was the first poet to write in Catalan, but his metrics closely resembles earlier Catalonian poetry written in a language intermediate between Catalan and Provencal. To rule out foreign influences, March's verse design is compared with French, Castilian, Italian and English poetry of the late 13th through 14th centuries.
