The market penetration of computers has increased rapidly since the 1980s, with some projections indicating a 40% penetration of US households by the end of 1995. Computers have become cheaper and easier to buy and use. Multimedia technology is driving sales, and few machines will lack this capability in the future. Intel's Pentium chip will become more widely used in home computers as prices fall and the alliance between IBM and Apple Computer will have a strong impact on the market.
