FLINTSHIRE council tax payers were last night facing a pounds 585,000 bill after a consortium set up to save public cash collapsed with debts topping pounds 1m.

The only alternative is for Flintshire county council to challenge the remaining consortiummembers in court.

And that could prove more costly.

The Wirral and North Wales Purchasing Organisation (WNWPO) was originally made up of Wirral, Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire and Conwy councils.
