ABSTRACT. A survey of spiders associated with the irrigated rice ecosystem in central Kerala, India was conducted across different elevational ranges. Spiders were collected from rice fields of high ranges, midland and low land areas in two cropping seasons viz., June-September 2002 (Kanni Krishy) and October 2002-February 2003 (Makara Krishy) with a total of 144 hours of sampling time distributed across the two seasons. The sampling areas constituted Adimali and Marayoor of Idukki...

Reversal of grazing impact on plant species richness in nutrient-poor vs. nutrient-rich ecosystems.
Ecology
; INTRODUCTION Species richness, the number of biological species, is related to community productivity for a broad range of organisms found in different types of ecosystems (Grime 1973, Huston 1979, Begon et al. 1990, Rosenzweig and Abramsky 1993, Tilman 1993). Often, biological species richness

Ant diversity in pitcher-plant bogs of Massachusetts
Northeastern Naturalist
; ABSTRACT - We conducted the first systematic inventory of ant species richness in pitcher-plant bogs of Massachusetts. Twenty-six species were collected in 18 bogs during 1999 and 2000. We collected the bog-specialist Myrmica lobifrons for the first time in Massachusetts and found that it occurred

BIAS, PRECISION, AND ACCURACY OF FOUR MEASURES OF SPECIES RICHNESS.(Brief Article)

; Abstract. Species richness is a widely used surrogate for the more complex concept of biological diversity. Because species richness is often central to ecological study and the establishment of conservation priorities, the biases and merits of richness measurements demand evaluation. The jackknife
