Life at Fontanellato was pretty good compared to the previous two camps. In the room that I shared with, among others, Costas Jaco-vides, Peter Langrishe, Anthony, Geoffrey Barber and Pat Davis, we each had an iron bedstead, a proper mattress, a sheet and two blankets, not to mention a bedside table, and a cupboard between two of us! A cat we'd brought from Mon-talbo on a lead also took up residence in our room. The building, intended as an orphanage but never used as such, was properly constructed in stone and remained cool during that summer.
