Secretary of Labor Robert Reich has written about the increasing importance of workers who are "symbolic analysts," by which he means people engaged in devising, reporting, teaching, transmitting and interpreting abstract concepts and symbols. Reich thinks the symbolic analysts are at the cutting edge of economic productivity and national prosperity.
