The history of philosophy in the 20th century is described. At the turn of the century, epistemology ruled the day, to be followed by phenomenology as the dominant subject of philosophical interest. Phenomenology forced philosophers to raise questions about the real world's relation to the mind, as evidenced by Martin Heidegger's existential philosophy, which finally admitted the existence on non-cognitive factors. Heidegger aside, philosophy has still failed to address the relation between mind and nature, and this should be the goal of the discipline in the next century.
