Lee Bontecou, Edward Higgins and Robert Moskowitz each exhibited with Castelli in the early '60s though, for various reasons, none of them stuck around very long. The works in this show, most of which dated from 1959 to 1962, returned to that moment between the early shows of Johns and Rauschenberg and the arrival of Pop art. It was, as a large 1961 exhibition at MOMA proclaimed, an "age of assemblage."
