Coffee has come under fire many times in the health arena throughout the years. In the early 1980's, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a Washington, DC-based consumer oriented organization, associated coffee with all kinds of diseases, including bladder cancer, kidney and liver disease, a potential danger drink for possible heart attacks, and a possible link to deformities in child birth or other problems with children if coffee was consumed during pregnancy.
