Rhena Schweitzer Miller looks at a photograph taken in 1927 and smiles. Her father, Albert Schweitzer, is seated at a piano, and she is standing beside him.

"He sometimes gave me piano lessons, but it didn't work out too well," she recalls. "He'd say to me, |You stupid goose.' By the end of the lesson, I'd be in tears. He wasn't used to giving piano lessons to little girls."
