Polyols dilemma at SKC.(SKC plans to sell more propylene oxide derivatives)

SHANGHAI, CHINA -- South Korean group SKC's recently announced plans to build an additional 100 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) capacity propylene oxide (PO) plant by 2008 have left it in a quandary as regards marketing, according to Richard (Sang Hoon) Lee, assistant manager of SKC's chemical business marketing team.

SKC does not currently export any PO from Korea, Lee said. Korea Kumho Petrochemicals Ltd, the biggest polyol producer in Korea, is its biggest domestic customer for PO. But the group it is also a competitor with SKC in polyols. The dilemma for SKC is the raised ...
