Thai Government Launches Probe into Air Pollution at Map Ta Phut.

The Thai government says it is proposing to declare the Map Ta Phut, Thailand industrial estate an "environmentally controlled zone," which would trigger a cleanup of the site and subject it to tough environmental regulations. Almost all of Thailand's petrochemical industry is located at Map Ta Phut. The country's Pollution Control Department (PCD) submitted the proposals to the National Environment Board (NEB; Bangkok) earlier this month. Map Ta Phut has poor air quality caused by high levels of sulfur dioxide and carcinogenic solvents ...
