WANT TO PAY LESS IN TAXES? Of course you do, and single-state municipal-bond funds may be just your ticket. They're exempt from federal income taxes and shelter residents from state and local income taxes in most states. These days those double-tax-free yields are rich indeed. High-quality ten-year munis currently yield about 5.45% annually--about one percentage point higher than at their low point last fall.
