Two of the bridges on the detour routes around the collapsed state Thruway bridge were rated as showing "serious deterioration" during inspections in 1986, according to state records obtained by The Times Union.

The bridges carry Route 5S in Glen and Route 20 in Esperance across the Schoharie Creek. State Department of Transportation officials said both bridges have been reinspected in the past week and substantial repairs were made to the Route 20 span.
