The Chernobyl power plant disaster, which killed 31 people, hospitalized 500 and contaminated an entire city last April, will eventually turn out to be a benefit to mankind, said an American doctor who treated patients there.

"The ultimate fallout from Chernobyl may well be more good than evil," said Dr. Robert P. Gale, the bone- marrow specialist who has spent about half his time in Chernobyl since the accident, treating patients and collecting data.
