Bosses have different perspectives and personalities. They can be responsive or resentful, understanding or underhanded. And no two employees view the boss the same way.

So I asked people "What makes a good boss?" They had plenty of ideas. Some feared their remarks would jeopardize their jobs, so they are quoted anonymously.

Roman Belousov got down to basics. "A good boss gives the employees a good salary," he said. "He should be kind and polite, and be a knowledgeable professional."
