President Reagan's friends, including members of his "kitchen cabinet," a group of wealthy California industrialists who have bankrolled and advised him during his political career, will attempt this weekend to persuade White House chief of staff Donald Regan to resign.

One former senior official with close ties to the White House said that Reagan would accept the resignation "in a minute" if Regan had the "decency" to "make the offer."
