The number of large badger setts on farmland has doubled in the past 20 years, according to a survey by the two Welsh farming unions. The FUW and NFU Cymru compiled returns from more than 300 Welsh farmers, covering over 25,500 hectares - nearly 62,000 acres.

The survey showed an average of 2.46 large setts per square kilometre in 2006 compared with 1.49 in 1996 and just 1.19 in 1986.

The survey also found that the number of smaller setts had risen by a massive 133% during the past 20 years.
