ASSEMBLYMAN POWELL DENIES RAPE ALLEGATIONS.(CAPITAL REGION)

NEW YORK -- Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV on Wednesday denied raping a woman in an uptown apartment this month, saying the sex was consensual and that he had been ``hurt'' by the accusation.
``I was hurt. I was hurt by it. These were completely vicious and false allegations,'' he said at a press conference on the steps of City Hall.
The alleged victim, who has not been identified, told police that after meeting Powell at a party on July 1, she accompanied him to an apartment where Powell raped her, according to police.
