The Bon-Ton department store chain has purchased stores from other chains, almost doubling its size within a few months. Bon-Ton bought the ten Adam, Meldrum & Anderson (AM&A) stores in Buffalo, NY, and 20 of Hess' Department Stores units in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Bon-Ton paid $2.1 million for AM&A, but assumed $40.6 million in the firm's debt. The Hess units cost $60 million.
