Two environmental groups want to preserve marine ecosystems by blocking off large sections of the northwest Atlantic Ocean to fishing and other human activities.
A recent report published by the Conservation Law Foundation and the World Wildlife Fund of Canada identifies a sample network of 30 individual conservation areas; the network's combined area is 24,000 square miles, or about 20 percent of the ocean from Cape Cod to eastern Canada's Scotian Shelf.
