The middle classes in Poland have been defined at least seven different ways, each reflecting a belief about the role of this class in the country's future and the changes in Polish economic policy. The conflicting definition fall into one of two larger categories: middle class status based on education or economics. These varying definitions allow for many Poles to consider themselves part of the middle class and add to the entrepreneurial spirit that is guiding reform in Poland.
