A left Keynesian approach to free trade suggests that debates over NAFTA and other trade regulation are misguided due to the assumption of full employment and fair wages. Debate has assumed that all free trade is liberalizing. A left Keynesian approach can better account for the differences between northern and southern states and their varying capital-to-labor ratios.
