A TIMELY TALE H.G. WELLS' GREAT-GRANDSON IS BEHIND A NEW FILM VERSION OF A CLASSIC STORY.(PREVIEW)

In a time machine, the span separating director Simon Wells and his great-grandfather H.G. Wells would be an extremely short trip.
``I missed him by 15 years,'' Simon says of his illustrious predecessor, who died in 1946 after writing many of the seminal works of science fiction.
Now Wells is bringing his great-grandfather's vision back to movie theaters in a new version of ``The Time Machine.'' Filmed partially in the Capital Region last winter, it opens Friday.
Actually, it's not entirely H.G.'s vision ...
