This book represents itself as feminist in its assumptions and attitudes, but the kind of feminism the editor imposes in the introduction, and which several (not all) of the contributors take up, is essentialist, confrontational and separatist, a product of the American 1970s, and quite innocent of the critical and theoretical sophistication that has emerged in recent years.
