Will Smith once admitted that it was Denzel Washington who advised him not to be shown kissing a man in ``Six Degrees of Separation,'' Smith's underrated 1993 film debut. It's dubious advice, to be sure (and indicative of the play-it-safe attitude that's made Washington's career so boring lately). But where was Washington when someone needed to wave Smith away from ``The Legend of Bagger Vance''?
