Analysis of the decision by state legislatures to enact auto insurance no-fault laws indicates a positive and significant relation between the growth in auto liability premiums per capita from 1966-1970 and the probability of adopting no-fault legislation from 1971-1976. There is also evidence that states with very high population density per road mile were more likely to adopt no-fault.
