Colonie The medic's letter echoed the futility felt in Vietnam.

``Yesterday was horrible. We lost 30 or more, over 100 wounded and many missing. I am not sure how many Viet Cong we hit but not many,'' the medic wrote his friend, William D. Arthur, a descendant of Chester A. Arthur, 21st president of the United States.

On Sunday, Arthur, now the mayor of Holly Hill, Fla., spoke at a Marine Corps League memorial service in Albany Rural Cemetery, where President Arthur is buried.
