Our assignment: Pick today's Seven Wonders of the World.

The old list, credited to the Greek writer Antipatros, was adequate for 100 B.C., but erosion, earthquakes and plunder had left only Egypt's pyramids and fragments of a couple of others to tease our hunger to savor actual, recognized Wonders.

The time had come for an update.
