Danish missionary Lars Peter Larsen played a significant role in the growth of Christianity in India, where he worked from 1889-1933. In his work, he exhibited a sharp intellect, pietism, liberal evangelicalism and Lutheran holiness, qualities which were rarely exhibited in combination with each other. He devoted his efforts to helping Indian Christians understand the gospel better, mainly through his teaching and revision of the Tamil Bible. He also strove to rid Indian Christianity of its excessive Westernness.
