WASHINGTON Abdallah ``Abdo'' Wakileh, a seventh-grader at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Middle School, tripped over the word barbiturate and was eliminated in the third round of the 67th National Spelling Bee here Wednesday.
Wakileh, who represented the Capital Region in the contest, spelled the word barbiterate, his one miscue an e instead of a u, as spelled in the Merriam-Webster collegiate dictionary.
Wakileh asked the pronouncer to define the word before making a stab at spelling it.
