William Randolph Hearst Jr., editor in chief of the Hearst Newspapers, who died Friday night, was hailed Saturday as a "great newspaperman."

Hearst was pronounced dead at 11:05 p.m. Friday after arriving at New York Hospital's emergency room in full cardiac arrest, hospital spokeswoman Carolyn Migliore said. The 85-year-old publishing magnate had been ill following a stroke suffered last year.
