Today's American women appear to be discovering what the ancient Romans and songbirds figured out long ago: A bath is fit for a queen.

In a new survey on the bathing habits of 1,000 women, nearly one out of five say they typically take baths instead of showers because they are more relaxing. The survey of women aged 18 and older was conducted by Yardley, the soap makers, who were recently bought out by Maybelline, the makeup corporation. Both are based in Memphis, Tenn.
