What are your tolerances?(tolerance measurement by construction surveyors)

At a recent seminar I conducted, I asked the participants a simple question, "What are your tolerances?" In attendance were land surveyors, construction surveyors, engineers and even an architect.

The projects they worked on ranged from small building layouts to subdivisions and industrial sites to large airport projects. Even with the diversity of the group and the types of projects they were involved in, I received pretty much the same answers from everyone. (Except the architect, of course, who thought measurements to the ten thousandths were possible--I'm not kidding!) ...
