Even though the passage of time makes it harder to find the French Canadian influence in the city, Joseph Gagnon still remembers when he would spend half the day learning his parochial school courses in English and then repeat them in French for the other half.
"I'm full French Canadian," said Gagnon, a 62-year-old native of the city. "I consider myself very fortunate to be able to speak two languages. My wife has a whole slew of French recipes. ... The home, the school and the church all (used to) reinforce French."
