Cricket, a flat-rate wireless service targeting frugal consumers, makes its debut in San Diego this week, hoping to capture a big chunk of business out of the gate.

Given the cost, $45 a month for unlimited minutes along with long distance calling, unlimited text messaging and picture messaging, the service really sells itself, said Fernando Corona, Cricket's regional vice president.
